Paris Show 2010 Highlights: Saab 9-3 ePower Concept

Another day and another manufacturer announces its electric ambitions. This time Swedish maker Saab is getting in on the act with a battery-powered version of the 9-3 SportWagon estate. Called the ePower, Saab’s main claim for the newcomer is that it will have “a zero-emissions driving range greater than any EV currently in production.”

Power will come from high-density 35.5kw/h lithium-ion battery cells which give a projected driving range of 124 miles. The electric motor gives the equivalent of 182bhp and can propel the ePower from 0-62mph in 8.5 seconds.

Like other makers, Saab will first introduce a fleet of development cars first, with a view to obtaining real world driving data. The 70 9-3s will go on test in Sweden early next year, and each will be fitted with an aircraft-style black box recorder. For more details click here.
