Hot News: New Concept Car from Alfa Romeo at Geneva Show 2011

Rumors have been rampant about a possible KTM X-Bow-based sports car from the Fiat Group , but we now have the first teaser image of the possible car: the Alfa Romeo 4C GTA concept headed to the Geneva Motor Show.

Alfa Romeo isn’t giving much away with the teaser image, merely the grille and emblem, which look extremely similar to the lengthened Alfa grille on the 2uettottanta concept from Geneva last year. Recently, reports supposedly based on ‘leaked’ information, attest that the car will be based on KTM’s X-Bow and positioned as an affordable successor to the beautiful 8C Competizione.

Although the 4C GTA concept is reportedly set to replace the 8C, it will be substantially different if it is indeed based on the X-Bow. Reports suggest that the cylinder count will be cut in half, but that the four-cylinder engine will use a means of forced induction to help boost power. The engine is rumored to be a 1.8-liter, turbocharged I-4 producing somewhere in the neighborhood of 265 horsepower. This is drastically different from the 8C’s 450-horsepower, 4.7-liter V-8, but should provide compelling performance in a car that could weigh less than 2000 pounds (the X-Bow tips the scales at a svelte 1540 pounds).

In addition to providing enough power for the sports car, the engine could hint at the 4C’s production intent. According to leaked information, the production sports car will be named the Alfa Romeo 1750SS, which is consistent with the powertrain in the concept car (1750 cc).

This is all we know for now, but we should learn more as more teasers are introduced and as we approach the concept’s debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
