Unofficial Picture: 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan

An image of Volkswagen’s refreshed Tiguan compact crossover has leaked in advance of the car’s planned Geneva show debut.

What we see is a new Volkswagen that resembles…every other new Volkswagen that has recently hit the market from the Jetta to the Touareg. New headlights with LED daytime running lights lend the crossover a more upscale appeal. The bigger grille and revised front fascia are now a better match for the Touareg.

It’s not clear if there are any engine tweaks headed for the 2012 Tiguan, but the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine is already at the more powerful end of the segment. Unfortunately for Volkswagen, fuel economy is not. Depending on whether you choose front- or all-wheel drive and a six-speed manual or automatic transmission, the mileage range is 18-20/25-26 mpg city/highway. Expect that to change for the 2012 model year just as it did transitioning from the 2010 to 2011 model year.

Pricing for the 2011 Tiguan starts at $24,540. What changes would you suggest Volkswagen make to the current Tiguan?
