New Car: 2010 Mercedes E-Class Estate
Leaked onto the Web today were images of the upcoming Mercedes-Benz E-Class wagon, wearing nothing but its presumed production form.
Rumors indicate the model will debut at next month's Frankfurt Show, with European dealer deliveries occurring shortly thereafter.
There's no denying it's the new E-Class, as it wears the same mug up front and wraparound LED taillights to the rear. Sources say the wagon is only around a half centimeter longer than the sedan, and that the total cargo capacity is roughly 69 cu ft. Hatchback lifting duties are taken care of by an automated system, though manual control also can be undertaken. Sport package-equipped wagons will reportedly receive unique wheels, a more visible dual exhaust, hatch-mounted spoiler, and a performance-tuned suspension.
Once inside, passengers will find the usual fine leather, multimedia gadgetry, and other creature comforts as in the sedan and coupe. Air suspension, active head restraint, belt pretensioners, and an army of airbags help ensure safety at all times.
The usual array of gas and diesel engines will no doubt be offered in Europe, but the only U.S. model will be the 268-hp 3.5L V-6 E350 4MATIC Wagon. As you can tell by the name, the Wagon will feature all-wheel drive standard when it arrives on our shores in June 2010.
