Chicago Show 2010 Highlights: 2011 Chevrolet Suburban 75th Anniversary Diamond Edition
Even as one of America’s most popular people-haulers, the Chevrolet Suburban hasn’t gotten much love in recent years, falling subject to scrutiny as the world turns its back on large, gas-guzzling SUVs. Of course, those who shun the Chevy clearly have never needed to haul more than six people, camping gear, the family dog, and a 21-foot boat at the same time—they just don’t understand why the Suburban exists. But clearly the Suburban serves a unique purpose, and the nameplate has been in production for 75 years. It’s an incredible milestone being celebrated with this special Diamond Edition, shown at the Chicago auto show.
The Diamond Edition, which is basically an appearance package, starts with a 2WD or 4WD Suburban 1500 LTZ. All are dressed up with a unique White Diamond tri-coat paint and a cashmere-colored interior, plus 20-inch chrome-clad wheels and “Diamond Edition” C-pillar badges, sill plates, and embroidered headrests. The Diamond also comes with navigation, Bluetooth, a rear-view camera, remote start, and adjustable pedals as standard.
While fancy paint and a few logos aren’t much in terms of grand celebratory gestures, it’s nice to be reminded of the Suburban’s longevity. The 2570 Diamond Editions will available starting early this summer, and most will be put to work doing what the big ’Burban does best: Haulin’ the family and all their stuff.
