Sneak Peek: Citroen DS4 Concept

A new Citroen is emerging from the shadows! This is the first image of the French firm's latest addition to its revamped DS range – the DS4.

Revealed on Citroen's Facebook page, the picture gives us our first look at the new premium model, which like the DS3 supermini, will sit above regular versions in the range. It will make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in concept form next month.

What is it? Well, judging by the raised ride height it's set to be a sporty MPV cross-over. Our sources in France tell us that the DS4 is meant to finally bring the C-Sportlounge concept – revealed at the 2005 Frankfurt Motor Show – to life.

Underneath the skin lies the chassis from the all-new C4 hatchback, which goes on sale in the UK before the end of this year. As you can see, the DS4 gets the same kicked-up C-pillar as the current C4, while at the front is Citroen's bold double chevron grille complete with a DS badge.

From the wheelbase, it's obvious that the DS4 will feature a large front overhang and chopped rear, so it should be very distinctive on the road. Inside, expect ample space for five with some degree of flexibility. Key Citroen features such as a panoramic windscreen are bound to be carried over from the DS3 too.

Expect sales to start in 2011, with a DS5 model – based on the latest C5 – arriving in around 18 months time. The DS4 won't be the only unveil on Citroen's Geneva stand – a hot hatch rally-inspired version of the DS3, called the WRC, will debut too.
